Однако пальцы постоянно и эффективно обдуваются воздухом, а потому обычно остаются сухими. Чтобы ценный пот не высыхал понапрасну, американские ученые предложили собирать его внутри поглотителя из углеродной пены.
Тонкая полоска наклеивается на палец и тут же приступает к работе, ферменты внутри пены вступают в контакт с потом, в результате чего начинается реакция молекул кислорода и лактата и выработка электричества. Она на удивление велика – за время 10-часового сна пальцы добровольцев выработали до 400 миллиджоулей каждый, а этого хватит почти на сутки работы, например, умных часов. Умножьте на количество пальцев и добавьте, что носить генератор можно круглые сутки – вот вам и бесплатная личная электростанция.
Параллельно ученые испытали смежную разработку – пьезоэлектрический генератор для пальцев. Он срабатывает при прикосновении к чему-либо, идеальный сценарий – набор текста на клавиатуре. Эффективность ниже, чем у пота, порядка 30 миллиджоулей за час ударов по клавишам, но геймеры будут в восторге – каждый клик по мышке принесет по 0,5 миллиджоулей! И все это в пассивном режиме, без затрат энергии самого тела, без усталости и дискомфорта.
