Шведская компания Cake объединила усилия с PaperShell для создания нового материала – бумажной замены пластику, который применяется в строительстве электромотоциклов. Изначально главной идеей Cake было создание максимально экологически безопасного транспорта, но на практике оказалось, что организовать переработку пластика слишком сложно, хотя и возможно. Поэтому они задались поиском альтернативного материала и остановили свой выбор на бумаге.
Строго говоря, это уже не совсем бумага, а некая версия композитного материала из целлюлозы, сформированная в вакуумной камере под давлением. Исследования еще продолжаются, окончательный вариант пока не выбран. Однако уже существующие образцы демонстрируют потрясающую прочность в комбинации с малым весом, плюс они легко выдерживают воздействие осадков.
У нового бумажного материала есть два весомых преимущества перед пластиком. Во-первых, его куда проще и дешевле переработать, в том числе многократно, что исключает создание отходов. Во-вторых, у него символический углеродный след, порядка 0,65 кг CO2-экв. на килограмм массы. Для примера, у полипропилена это 4,95 кг CO2-экв., а у стекловолокна 25,05 кг CO2-экв.
Первый электромотоцикл Cake с деталями из бумаги должен поступить на рынок в 2025 году.
