Запуск в прокат в Японии фильма «Аватар: Путь воды» хотя и стал одним из самых масштабных в истории — но фактически провалился. Большинство кинотеатров вынуждены были вернуть билеты, так как их технические возможности оказались недостаточными для демонстрации фильма в новейшем формате воспроизведения с высокой частотой кадров (HFR). И это породило новую проблему – стоит ли вкладывать средства в модернизацию оборудования?
При съемках нового «Аватара» было сделано три версии фильма: две с частотой 48 кадров в секунду в 2D и 3D формате и привычный 24-секундный 2D формат. Строго говоря, это уже никакая не новинка, так как HFR был использован еще при съемках трилогии «Хоббит» в 2014-м. Проблема в том, что в мире крайне мало кинотеатров, которые способны поддерживать данный формат.
Отсутствие поддержки объясняется двумя факторами. Во-первых, таких фильмов очень мало. Во-вторых, сам формат разрабатывался для виртуальной реальности, где высокая частота кадров помогает сгладить огрехи графики. При выводе на обычный экран такая картинка создает дискомфорт для глаз и даже может вызвать тошноту. Уже поэтому в том же «Аватаре» специально сделали сцены с диалогами под формат 24 кадра, при помощи простого дублирования кадров из 48 кадров.
Известно, что в некоторых японских кинотеатрах владельцы принудительно понизили частоту прокатной ленты до 24 кадров, но такая возможность есть не везде. Это порождает вопросы — например, почему руководство кинотеатров закупало версии фильма, которые они не могут показать? И надо ли теперь инвестировать в покупку нового оборудования, если зрители не в восторге от увиденного, а показывать в таком формате, в общем-то, и нечего?
